The iOrtho™ Course - Interception Orthodontics - the first course of its kind
It was a weekend of firsts.
On July 22-23, 2011, Dr. Chris Baker taught her iOrtho™ course -- interception orthodontics -- to a sellout session in Baltimore. It was the first iOrtho™ course Dr. Baker has taught on the East Coast. It was also the first such orthodontics course taught anywhere for general dentists where each participant got an iPad®.
“Treating young patients effectively with orthodontics is an important subject,” Dr. Baker said. “Dentists are seeing more and more young patients needing orthodontic treatment. It is important to realize that there are many ways to make the child’s life better with orthodontics -- to know how to identify these needs and what to do when they are evident.”
According to Dr. Baker, the use of iPads enhanced the learning experience of the class participants. “There are specially-designed websites we designed for our course that allowed doctors to learn important new diagnostic and examination skills,” she said. “The excitement and response was outstanding.”
Dr. Baker’s experience as a pediatric dentist and orthodontics fellow, as well as being the partner of the late Dr. Walter A. Doyle (the world’s first dentist certified both as a pediatric dentist and as an orthodontist) gave her excellent preparation for teaching the course. Her 20-plus years of orthodontics teaching experience as well as being a faculty member of two dental schools makes her an excellent resource for general and pediatric dentists wishing to learn orthodontics. Dr. Baker’s second book, “Your Child’s Smile,” was released last year, and is available through numerous book dealers.
The first Comprehensive iOrtho™ Course will be taught by Dr. Baker in San Antonio beginning in January. For more information, click HERE.

Dr. Chris' AOS Mastership Ortho Course in Dubai is a Success
With the first AOS Mastership Orthodontics Course in Dubai halfway complete, Dr. Chris Baker is taking on a new challenge: A second Mastership group has enrolled for her next course in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“We have had an outstanding response to our course in Dubai,” Dr. Baker said. “It is a privilege to teach these doctors, who are very intelligent and dedicated. That said, it is also wonderful enjoying the hospitality of the peoples of the Middle East. They have all been so gracious.”
The course, held in Dubai, is the first comprehensive orthodontics course taught by an American Orthodontics Society(AOS) instructor outside the United States. The courses are held in partnership with the Academic Center for Dental Fellowship (ACDF), the offices of which are in the UAE. “The courses there are coordinated by Dr. Majid Rahmani, of the ACDF,” Dr. Baker said. “He and his talented staff have done an excellent job organizing these groups. We feel very fortunate.”

![]() During the 2011 American Orthodontic Society Annual Meeting in Houston, Dr. Chris Baker (seated, center) was installed as the organization's president. However, AOS history was made in another way when that organization's Education Committee approved Dr. Baker's AOS Mastership Orthodontics Course, to be taught in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. | Dr. Chris Baker to teach historic first AOS Mastership Orthodontics course overseasHistory was made at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Orthodontic Society (AOS) in Houston last October. For the first time, the AOS will offer a full, multi-session orthodontics course outside of the U.S. The Society is gaining significant international influence in the world of orthodontic instruction for general dentists.
During the Annual Meeting, the AOS Education Committee approved a four-session course, to be called the Mastership Orthodontic Course, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), beginning in February, 2011. The AOS President, Dr. Chris Baker, will teach the course. “The AOS has always been a pioneering organization,” said Dr. Baker. “It is our privilege to serve the needs of dentists by providing the best in orthodontic instruction. The doctors we have been working with to make this course a reality are very enthusiastic about this course. I think it is significant that the Dubai course approval came directly after AOS Instructor Dr. Lenny Carapezza went international for the AOS, teaching a course in Acapulco, Mexico.” The Mastership Orthodontic Course combines materials from two of Dr. Baker’s AOS courses: Comprehensive Orthodontics and Craniofacial Orthopedics, and her Mastermind Orthodontics course. The Mastership Orthodontic course consists of four, six-day sessions scheduled quarterly throughout one year. This Course will be held at the Monarch Dubai hotel beginning February 4, immediately following the UAE International Dental Conference & Arab Dental Exhibition, also held in Dubai.
