Truly Understanding

So very often...
A father’s love is a mystery to us... 
...for the first and many years of our life.
As a child, we may see that love as our most special. 
Or, as 'tough love'.
As we grow, we find ourselves an adult,
and begin to understand the frailties of adulthood.
As years go by, we experience loving in a marriage,
and with our own children.
If we are very, very fortunate,
we finally reach a point of a broad and amazing understanding...
...of our father’s love.
What it made us.
What we too often missed as life swirled by.
How soon we had to miss him.
How we yearned for the wisdom 
We never asked about, never gained.
And, how our Daddy was as frail as we,
how beloved he truly was to us, and
how we must learn wisdom as did he!
